Production Planning (MPS) is one of the most strategic areas of production process management systems.
Through this procedure, the company sets and organizes production strategies aimed at satisfying deliveries for customers, which however often produce contrasts with the management and efficiency objectives of the production departments.
There are various techniques through which in Fluentis ERP it is possible to set a strategic Production Planning: MTO (Make to Order), MTS (Make to Stock), ATO (Assembly to Order), or ETO (Engineering To Order).

What can you do with the Production Planning area of ​​Fluentis ERP?


Thanks to this elaboration, the planning manager takes care of the realization of the production program, called “Guide Program”. This program includes all production orders, whether they are single-product rather than multi-product, capable of determining the set of products to be made. The definition MPS highlights the size of the demand, coming from customer orders, sales forecasts, rather than from understock or reorder points defined in the warehouse.


Production orders represent the main document of the production program. They can identify a single product, rather than the set of more logically aggregated products for production or logistics organization issues. Production orders can be dependent on a demand rather than independent. The possibility of defining a priority for the various orders will allow the production scheduling to cover the needs according to the distinct bases and production cycles of each article.


It represents the Master Scheduling algorithm, that is the production scheduler that deals with the selected orders and analyzes their “production feasibility” according to its structural composition defined precisely by the bill of materials and the processing cycles assigned to it. The result of this processing will give rise to the issue of some “Planned” documents such as, Planned Production Orders, Planned Work Orders and Planned Purchase Orders. The release of these documents will result in actual Production Orders, Work Orders and Purchase Requests respectively in the context of the Purchasing area. Production scheduling can take place with “At the earliest” analysis logic, rather than “At the latest”, depending on the organizational settings and strategies that the company wishes to set.


Finite capacity production scheduling represents a specific need especially for those companies that typically produce for the warehouse. Optimizing production departments as much as possible and therefore making production activities as “convenient” as possible, optimizing their times and thus reducing the setup costs of the work centers is the primary ambition of the corporate Planners. In Fluentis ERP, finite capacity planning logics have been created in the context of scheduling aimed at achieving the above objectives.


Thanks to this production planning procedure, the operator is able to analyze the production coverage of each active order inserted in the system. In essence, through the algorithms of this function, the Fluentis ERP MRP is able to know the commitment of each material present in the warehouse, rather than available on the date concerned. Through this processing, the operator can receive messages relating to the advance of some supplies of material, to the integration of necessary quantities, rather than cancel orders of useless articles. The Fluentis MRP can operate in an information or device context, it can operate partially on some selected orders, rather than globally on the whole set of orders present in production.
